En sık rastlanan işlevsel gastrointestinal sistem hastalığı olan gastroözofageal reflü hastalığı, mide ve duedonum içeriğinin
özofagus içine geri kaçması nedeniyle oluşur. Gastrointestinal sistemin psikiyatrik hastalıklarla ilişkisi uzun süredir
bilinmektedir. Psişik stresin gastroözofageal reflüyü artırıcı etkileri, gerek fizyolojik, gerekse klinik çalışmalarla gösterilmiştir.
Anoreksiya nervoza ve bulimiya nervoza gibi yeme bozukluklarının klinik bulguları gastroözofageal reflüyle
karışabilir ve kendileri de özofagus işlev bozuklukları yapabilirler. Altta yatan psikiyatrik hastalıklar gastroözofageal
reflünün tıbbi ve cerrahi tedavisinin başarısını belirgin biçimde etkileyebilir. Gerek psikofarmakolojik, gerekse psikoterapötik
girişimler, hastalığın tedavisinde yarar sağlar. Bu nedenle psikiyatristlere gastroözofageal reflü hastalığının ayırıcı
tanısı ve tedavisinde önemli görevler düşmektedir.

the reflux of the stomach and duedonum content to the eosophagus. The relationship between the gastrointestinal
system and psychiatric disorders has been known throughout the history. The worsening of gastroeosophageal reflux
symptoms with psychic stress has been shown in physiological and clinical studies. Eating disorders, such as anorexia and
bulimia nervosa can show up with symptoms resembling gastroeosophageal reflux disease, or can cause problems in
esophageal function themselves. Underlying psychiatric disorders can affect the outcome of medical and surgical
interventions to gastroeosophageal reflux disease. Psychopharmacological ad psychotherapeutic interventions can
contribute to the treatment of this illness. Psychiatrists have an important role in differential diagnosis and treatment
of gastroeosophageal reflux disease.
