Bu çalışmada İstanbul ve Cerrahpaşa Tıp Fakülteleri Nöroloji Anabilim Dallan'nda yatarak ya da ayaktan tedavi edilen serebrovasküler hastalık geçirmiş 38 hasta, psikiyatrik muayene ve Kısa Akıl Muayenesi (KAM) ölçeğinin yanısıra Hamilton ve Beck Depresyon Ölçekleri uygulanarak depresyon açısından değerlendirilmiştir. Serebrovasküler hastalıktan sonra % 50 oranında depresyon ortaya çıktığı bulunmuştur. Hastaların % 26 sında majör, % 24 ünde minör depresyon saptanmıştır. Depresyonun sakatlık derecesiyle ilişkili olmadığı; majör depresyon bulunan hastalarda bilişsel kaybın daha büyük olduğu; kortikal ve bilateral lezyon yerleşiminin daha yüksek depresyon şiddetiyle ilişkili olduğu bulunmuştur. Kadınlarda depresyon oranı ve şiddeti erkeklerden yüksek bulunmuştur. Kadınlarda HDÖ ve Beck puanları ortalamaları erkeklere göre anlamlı ölçüde yüksek bulunmuştur (p< 0.01). Depresyon bulunan kadınların HDO ve Beck puanlan ortalamaları depresyon bulunan erkeklerden daha yüksek bulunmuştur. Bu farklılık Beck puanlan için ileri derecede anlamlıydı (p< 0.001). Bilişsel kaybın depresyonun şiddetinden etkilendiği saptanmıştır

In this study thirtyeight patients with cerebrovascular accident, treated on an in or outpatient basis at Istanbul and Cerrahpasa Schools of Medicine, departmens of neurology were studied. Both psychiatric and mini-mental state examinations were performed in the evaluation of patients; also depression analyses were made by using Hamilton and Beck's depression scales. The incidence of poststroke depression was 50 % in this study population. 26 % of the patients were diagnosed with major depression whereas 24 % had minor depression. Depression was not found to be conelated with disability; patients with major depression had a higher degree of cognitive impairment, and cortical and bilateral lesion localization were found to be related with more severe depression. Incidence and severity of depression was higher in women. Mean HDRS and Beck points were higher in women and this was statistically significant (p< 0.01). Mean HDRS and Beck points were higher in women with depression when compared to depressed men. The difference was statistically significant in points with Beck Depression Scale (p< 0.001). Cognitive impairment was affected by the severity of depression.
