Gerekçe: Bu çalışmada, elektrokonvülzif tedavi (EKT) uygulaması, antipsikotik ilaçlara bağlı şiddetli ekstrapiramidal belirtileri ve aynı zamanda üriner retansiyonu da olan bir olguda, alternatif bir tedavi yöntemi olarak sunulmuştur.
Yöntem: Ekstrapiramidal belirtilerin düzeyi.tedaviye başlamadan önce ve her bir EKT uygulamasından sonra, Ekstrapiramidal Semptomları Derecelendirme Ölçeği (ESDÖ) kullanılarak saptanmıştır. Sonuçlar: Tedaviye başlamadan önce 42 puan olarak ölçülen ESDÖ skoru, X EKT uygulamasından sonra 6 puan düşmüştür. Değerlendirme: Sunduğumuz olguda şiddetli ekstrapiramidal belirtiler üzerinde EKT ûe elde edilen dramatik düzelme, benzer olgularla karşılaşan klinisyenler için pratik bir çözüm önerisi oluşturabilir.Yazarlar, bu olgu vesilesiyle, EKT'nin ekstrapiramidal belirtiler ve Parkinson hastalığı üzerindeki tedavi edici etkilerini gözden geçirmişlerdir.

Object: In this study, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) as an alternative treatment strategy to overcome the severe antipychotic drug-induced extrapyramidal symptoms in a patient with urinary retention has been presented. Method: Extrapyramidal symptom scores were recorded before and after earch ECT administration by Extrapyramidal Symptoms Rating Scale.
Results: Extrapyramidal symptom scores were found to decrease from 42 point to 6 point after the third ECT.
Discossion: The general therapeutic benefit of ECT against extrapyramidal symptoms and Parkinson disease has been reviewed and referring to the dramatic improvement of the severe extrapyramidal symptoms of the present case, whether ECT can provide a practical recommendation for clinicians who confront with such cases has been discussed.
