Amaç: Bu çalışmada amaç üniversite öğrencilerinde sosyal anksiyete düzeyleri ile aleksitimi ve stresle başaçıkma tarzları arasındaki ilişkinin araştırılmasıdır. Yöntem: Örneklem Çukurova Üniversitesi'nin değişik bölümlerinde okuyan 222 öğrenciyi içermektedir. Çalışmada Kısa Sosyal Fobi Ölçeği (KSFÖ), Toronto Aleksitimi Ölçeği (TAO) ve Stresle Başaçıkma Tarzları Ölçeği (SBTÖ) kullanılmıştır.
Sonuçlar: KSFÖ toplam ve korku, kaçınma ve fizyolojik belirtiler alt ölçeklerinin puanları ile SBTÖ'nin kendine güvenli ve iyimser yaklaşım alt ölçekleri arasında belirgin negatif korelasyon varken, boyun eğici ve çaresiz yaklaşım puanları arasında belirgin pozitif korelasyon vardır. KSFÖ puanlan yaş ve cinsiyet ile farklılık göstermemektedir. Anne eğitimi ise sosyal fobi belirti düzeyleriyle ilişkili bulunmuştur.
Değerlendirme: Sonuçlar sosyal anksiyete düzeyleriyle aleksitimik özellikler ve stresle başa çıkma tarzları arasında ilişki olduğu göstermektedir. Sosyal anksiyete ve aleksitimi puanlan arasındaki ilişkiyi ortaya koyan bulgumuz sosyal anksiyete belirtilerinin yol açtığı yoğun anksiyete ve fizyolojik belirtilere bağlı olabilir. Kişi bu belirtileri yaşamaktan kaçınmaya çalışırken giderek tüm duygulannı kısıtlıyor olabilir.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the levels of social anxiety and, alexithymia and coping styles among the university students. Method: The sample consisted of 222 students from the various departments of Çukurova University. The Brief Social Phobia Scale (BSPS), Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS) and The Coping Styles Scale (CSS) were used. Results: There was a positive correlation between the scores of TAS and the scores of BSPS-total, fear, avoidance and physiologic symptoms subscales. THe scores of BSPS and subscales showed a negative correlation with the scores of self confident and optimistic styles, whereas the scores of BSPS and the subscales positively correlated with the scores of self confident and optimicstic styles,w ehereas the scores of BSPS and the subscales positively conelated with the scores of submissive and helpless styles subscales of CSS. No significant relationship was found between the scores of BSPS and, age and gender. But the education of the mothers was found to be related with the scores of BSPS. Discussion: Results indicated that the levels of social anxiety showed a relationship with alexithymic characteristics and coping styles. Our finding of an association between the levels of alexithymia and social anxiety may be due to the high anxiety and physiologic . symptoms produced by social anxiety symptoms. As man attempts to avoid experiencing these sensations, may attempt to constrict emotioned experiences in general.
