Sokakta yaşayan ergenler ve sağlık durumları

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı sokakta yaşayan ergenlerde fiziksel ve ruhsal rahatsızlıkları ve bunları etkileyen etkenleri
araştırmaktır. Yöntem: Araştırmaya İstanbul’da koruma ve tedavi merkezlerinde kalan 21 yaşından küçük ergenler
alınmıştır. Toplam 194 ergene anket uygulanmıştır. Sonuçlar: Sokakta yaşayan ergenlerin %26.1’i bedensel bir rahatsızlığı
olduğunu bildirmiştir. Bedensel rahatsızlık görülme riski kızlarda, sokakta 4 yıl ve daha uzun süredir yaşayanlarda ve
ailesinde ruhsal bir rahatsızlığı olanlarda daha çok bulunmuştur. Sokakta yaşayan ergenlerin %16.8’i ruhsal bir rahatsızlığı
olduğunu bildirmiştir. Ruhsal rahatsızlık görülme riski kızlarda erkeklere göre daha yüksek bulunmuş; madde kullanımı,
sokakta yaşama süresi, para karşılığı ve rasgele cinsel ilişkide bulunma açısından farklılık saptanmamıştır. Ruhsal rahatsızlık
görülme riski ihmal yaşantısı bulunanlarda, aile üyelerinden biri ve aile dışından biri tarafından cinsel istismara
uğrayanlarda daha yüksektir. Ruhsal rahatsızlık görülme riski geçmişinde intihar öyküsü bulunan ergenlerde de bulunmayanlara
göre daha yüksek bulunmuştur. Tartışma: Sokakta yaşayan ergenlere yönelik sağlık hizmetleri götürmenin çok
gerekli ve önemli olduğu görülmektedir. Bu hizmetler kapsamında sokakta yaşayan ergenlerin sağlık taramalarının düzenli
olarak yapılması, ergenlere genel sağlık eğitimleri verilmesi, üreme sağlığı, beslenme ve hijyen konularında bilgilendirme
çalışmaları yapılması oldukça önemlidir.
Adolescents who live on the streets and their health status
Objective: The objective of this study is to investigate the medical and psychological illnesses prevalent among the
adolescents who live on the streets and the factors related to those illnesses. Methods: The sample used in this
research consists of the adolescents under the age of 21 who were being accommodated in the protection and
rehabilitation centers in Istanbul. A total of 194 adolescents were given a questionnaire. Results: 26.1% of adolescents
who live on the streets have reported a physical illness. The probability of physical illness has been found to be higher
among girls, those of the participants who have been living on the streets for 4 or more [year]s and those at least one
member of whose family has a mental illness. 16.8% of adolescents who live on the streets have reported a mental illness.
The probability of mental illness has been found to be higher among girls compared to boys. No difference was found
with regard to substance abuse, the length of the period the participant has been living on the streets, prostitution and
engagement in casual sex. The probability of mental illness among those participants who have experienced abuse was higher for the participants who had been sexually abused by a family member or by a stranger. The probability of mental
illness has been found to be higher among those adolescents who had tried to commit suicide compared to those who had
not. Discussion: It is seen that providing health services to the adolescents who live on the streets is very necessary and
important. It is also very important that regular health investigations of the adolescents who live on the streets, general
health education of the adolescents, and acquainting the adolescents with the concepts of reproductive health, nutrition
and hygiene be included in the scope of those services.
