Amaç: Dikkat eksikliği-aşırı hareketlilik (DEAH)'in farmakolojik tedavisinde en yaygın kullanılan ilaç olan metilfenidat'ın (MPH) tedavi sürecinde davra­nışsal ve nöropsikolojik göstergeler üzerindeki etki­sini ve bu göstergeler arasındaki ilişkiyi araştırmak amaçlandı.
Yöntem: Onbeş DEAH tanılı çocuk (ort.yaş 9.8 ± 3.7) MPH tedavisi öncesinde ve sonrasında davra­nışsal ve nöropsikolojik ölçek ve testler uygulana­rak değerlendirildi. Her bir ölçek ve testteki değişim ve bu değişimler arasındaki ilişki uygun istatistik­sel yöntemlerle analiz edildi.
Bulgular: MPH tedavisine paralel olarak davranış­sal ölçeklerden Conners ölçeğindeki değişiklikler ve dikkat eksikliğini yansıttığı düşünülen sürekli performans testi (SPT) alt skorları arasındaki ilişki anlamlı bulundu.
Sonuç: MPH tedavisinin etkilerinin izlenmesi ve açıklanması için mevcut davranışsal ve nöropsiko­lojik testlerden yararlanılabileceği ve MPH'nin dik­kat boyutu üzerindeki etkisinin düzelmede rol oy­nayabileceği görüldü.

Aim: To determine the effects of methylphenidate in the treatment of ADHD on neuropsychological and behavioral parameters obtained, and the inter­relationships of these parameters across treat­ment.
Methods: Fifteen children (mean age: 9.8 ± 3.7 ye­ars) with ADHD were rated and tested on ne­uropsychological and behavioral tests and scales before and after treatment with MPH. Changes on these measures as well as their interrelationships were analyzed with appropriate statistics. Results: MPH treatment effects were significantly observable on Conners' scales as well as on conti­nuous performance test/omission errors. Changes on these two measures were also significantly in-tercorrelated.
Conclusions: The currently available behavioral and neuropsychological measures may be used for monitoring MPH treatment effects. The cont­ribution of MPH's effect on inattention to imp­rovement deserves further investigation.
