"Bilinç", psikoloji biliminin kuruluş yıllarından bu yana üzerinde en sık konuşulan ve tartışılan kavramlardan biri olmasına rağmen, henüz dakik bir biçimde tanımlanamamıştır. Bu makalenin temel amacı, psikoloji alanında kullanılmış ya da kullanılmakta olan bilinç tanımlarını ortaya koymaktır. Buna ek olarak, makale bilişsel psikoloji bağlamında içsel temsillere dayanarak bilinç kavramını açıklamaya yönelik bir girişimi tanıtmaktır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda, bilinç kavramının varlığı, tanımı ve işlevi sorgulanarak, tartışılmıştır.

Despite the fact that the "consciousness" has been one of the most frequently discussed and debated concepts since the [year]s of establishment of the science of psychology up until the present, it still has not been defined in a precise manner. The basic objective of this article is to put forth for consideration the definitions of consciousness that have been used or are being used in the field of psychology. In addition to this, an initiative is presented aimed at explaining the consciousness concept in the context of cognitive psychology based on internal representations. The existence, definition and function of the consciousness concept bas been questioned and debated in the direction of this objective.
