'Stres tepkisi süreci' (STS) bireyin yaşamını tehdit eden gerçek, sembolik veya hayali herhangi bir uyarana bireyin tepkisinin genel bir ifadesidir. Strese yanıtta önemli rol oynayan iki sistem, noradrenerjik sistem ve hipotalamo-pitiuter-adrenal (HPA) sistemdir. Akut stres sırasında bu sistemlerin aktivasyonu hayati bir rol oynarken, uzun süren veya kontrol edilemeyen stres durumları beyinde bazı yıkıcı değişikliklere yol açar. Strese yanıt sistemindeki bu kalıcı değişiklikler bireyi strese karşı daha incinebilir hale getirebilir ve anksiyete bozuklukları, depresyon, travma sonrası stres bozukluğu gibi psikiyatrik hastalıkların gelişmesi için temel oluşturabilir. Bu derlemede "stres tepki süreci" ile ilişkili bilgilerin gözden geçirilmesi ve güncel literatür ışığında konunun irdelenmesi amaçlanmıştır.

Stress-reaction process (SRP) is an individual's general response to a real, estimated or imaginary event (stimulus) threatening the individual's life. Two important systems involved in the SRP are noradrenergic and hypothalamo-pituitary- adrenal (HPA) systems. While the activation of these systems during an acute stress plays a life-saving role, long-lasting or uncontrollable SRPs may cause some destructive alterations in the brain. These persistent alterations in the stressresponse system of the brain may lead the individual to be vulnerable to stress and may predispose to the development of some psychiatric disorders such as anxiety disorders, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. In this article was aimed that, information related "stress reaction process" is reviewed and evaluated by the light of current literature.
