Bebek ve küçük çocukların değerlendirmesi çocuğun gelecekte nasıl olacağı veya zekâ puanı hakkında kesin ve kati bir sonuç vermez, ancak etiyoloji, klinik, seyir ve süreç hakkında olası ve değerli bir öngörü sağlar. Bebeklerin klinik değerlendirmesi temel olarak görüşme becerilerine ve çocuğun bireysel olarak ve çevresiyle (bakım verenlerle) etkileşiminin gözlemine dayanan oldukça güç ve karmaşık bir süreç olduğu için birçok bilgi kaynağına ulaşılmasını ve değişik tekniklerin kullanılmasını gerektirir.

The aim of the infant psychiatric assessment is to formulate a diagnostic formulation that describes the child with all its features and treatment plan. The evaluation of infants and young children does not give an absolute and definitive result about how the child will be in the future or the intelligence score but provides us possible and valuable prediction about etiology, clinic, course and prognosis. The clinical assessment of infants is difficult and complicated process that based on interview skills and the observation of the child's individual and interaction with the caregivers. It requires to access to many sources of information and the use of different techniques.
