Mizaç, çocuğun değişik durumlarda nasıl davranacağını anlamamızı ve öngörmemizi sağlayan kişisel özellikler için kullanılan bir terimdir. Çağlar boyunca insanların olaylara karşı verdikleri tepkilerin nedenleri araştırılmış ve bu, günümüz bilim adamları tarafından da hala incelenen bir konu olmuştur. Çağdaş mizaç araştırmacılarının başında Chess ve Thomas gelmektedir. Onları Goldsmith, Rothbart, Buss ve Plomin gibi mizaç teorisyenleri izlemektedir. Mizaç bebeklik dönemini daha iyi anlamamız açısından da bize yol gösterici bir araçtır. Bebeğin gelişiminin seyri sırasında da dikkate alınmalıdır. Bu derlemede mizaç özellikleri ve gelişime etkileri incelenmeye çalışılmış ve sonuçta hem mizacın hem gelişimin genetik ve çevresel etmenlerden etkilendiği düşünülmüştür.

Temperament is an individiual characteristics that makes us understand and predict how children behave under different conditions. It has been searched throughout the ages and is still being studied by today's scientists. Contemporary temperament researchers starts with Chess and Thomas. They are followed by temperament theorists such as Goldsmith, Rothbart, Buss and Plomin. Temperament also guides us to better understand the period of infancy. The temperament should also be taken into account during the course of the infant's development. In this review, temperament traits and developmental effects were tried to be investigated, and as a result both temperament and development were thought to be influenced by genetic and environmental factors.
