0-3 yaşın birçok açıdan insan gelişiminin en önemli dönemi olduğu yazında sıklıkla ifade edilmiştir. Bebeklerin sağlıklı bir biçimde gelişebilmeleri ve ruh sağlığı yerinde, mutlu, başarılı bireylere dönüşebilmeleri adına ebeveynlerinin bu dönemi nasıl ele aldığı ve anne-babalık becerilerinin ne kadar gelişmiş olduğu büyük öneme sahiptir. Baumrind'e göre iyi anne-babalığın tanımı sevgi ve kontrol boyutlarının doğru ele alınmasıdır. Yani bebeğe kendisini sevilmiş ve değer verilmiş hissettirebilmek ve gerektiğinde bebeğin davranışlarını kontrol edebilmek ve yönetebilmek önemlidir. Sevgi ve kontrol boyutlarının nasıl ele alınması gerektiği yaşa ve çocuğun içinde bulunduğu gelişimsel evreye göre değişir ve değişmelidir. Bu yazının amacı bebek ruh sağlığı adına anne-babalık becerilerinin önemini değerlendirirken sevgi ve kontrol boyutlarının bu gelişimsel evrede nasıl ele alınması gerektiğine bugüne kadarki yazın doğrultusunda ışık tutmaktır.

It is stated frequently in the literature that 0-3 ages is the most important period of human development from several aspects. In order for the babies to have a healthy development and become happy and succesful adults with good mental health, how the parents handle this period and the quality of their parenting skills have crucial importance. Baumrind had defined good parenting as handling the love/warmth and control dimensions of parenting in the right way. In other words, good parenting can be basically defined as making the baby feel that he is loved and valued and being able to control and manage the baby's behaviours in the right way when needed. How the parents should be handling the love and control dimensions of parenting depends and should depend on the age and the developmental stage of the baby. The aim of this paper is to summarize how the love and control dimensions of parenting should be handled in this developmental stage while evaluating the significance and importance of parenting skills for infant and toddler mental health.
