Adolesan hasta ile güven verici bir ilişki kuran, adolesanın hastane ortamında olabildiğince bağımsız olmasını ve kararlara katılımını sağlayan, durumuna ilişkin bilgilendiren, akranları ve ebeveynleri ile iletişiminin sürdürülmesini destekleyen hemşire, adolesanın bu güç yaşantıdan olabildiğince az zedelenmesine yardım edebilir

Illness and hospitalization is an experience which needs adaptation to the new role and new life style and effects the adolescent in the most complex period of his development. For the adolescents having this experience, the change in body image, becoming dependent, lack of enough knowledge about the illness or hospital environment and the changes in the behaviours of parents or friends are among the factors that cause anxiety. The anxious adolescent is in need of professional help to cope with the anxiety. In a hospital, this person is a nurse because of the close relation with the patient. A nurse who establishes a trustworthy relation with the patient, gives him the chance of joining the decisions or being as independent as possible under the hospital conditions, informs the patient about his illness and supports the patient to continue to recover with the least traumatization may help the adolescent with this difficult experience.
