Dünyada ve ülkemizde sağlık alanında etkinlik gösteren alternatif tıp, kendisini bilimin yöntem ve verilerini benimseyen (bilimsel) tıp karşısına bir seçenek olarak koymaktadır. Bu etkinlik, ruh hastalıklarının sağaltımı alanına özel bir önem vermekte ve kavramsal temellerini oluşturmak için psikolojinin terminolojisini ve kavramsal yapısını kullanmaktadır. Yöntemlerinin etkinliğini ve güvenilirliğini psikiyatriden aldığı örneklerle kanıtlamaya çalışmaktadır. Gerek bu uygulamanın yapısını anlamak, gerekse yaygın olarak benimsenmesinin yol açacağı tıbbi ve etik sorunları önceden kestirmek açısından bu konuyu incelemek ve psikiyatri çevresini bu konuda duyarlandırmak gereklilikten öte bir zorunluluk durumuna gelmiştir. Magazin basınının çekici bir biçimde iletişim ortamına sunduğu bu olgu ülkemizdeki tıp etkinliğinin önemli sorunlarından biri olmaya adaydır.

Alternative medicine which plays and effective role in health care activities both in our country and in the world puts itself as an alternative against medicine which adopts the methods and data of science (scientific medicine). This activity pays a special attention to the treatment of mental illnesses and uses the terminology and conceptual structure of psychology in order to build up its own conceptual basis. The activity tries to prove its effectiveness and reliability by borrowing examples from psychiatry. Both to understand the structure of this practice and to predict the medical and ethical problems which will be caused by the widely acceptance of it, it is obliged to study the subject and to make the psychiatric circles sensitive about it. The phenomenon offered to the media with an attractive make-up by the press, is a candidate to be an important problem for medical practice in our country.
