DSM-III-R kriterlerine göre premenstrual sendrom (PMS) tanısı alan 25 kadının kişilik özellikleri ve ruhsal belirtilerinin değerlendirilmesi yapılmış, elde edilen bulgular kendi içinde ve kontrol grubuna ait bulgularla karşılaştırılmıştır. Bu amaçla menstruasyonlarının foliküler ve luteal döneminde her iki gruba da ‘Modified Moos Menstrual Distress Questionnaire’ (MMDQ), ‘Minnesota Çok Yönlü Kişilik Envanteri’ (MMPI) uygulandı. Bu bulgulara göre PMS’lu kadınların psikolojik problemlerini somatik yakınmalara dönüştürdükleri saptandı. Ayrıca olgularımızın luteal dönemde fiziksel ve ruhsal belirtilerinde de şiddetlenme olduğu bulunmuş ve bu MMPI ile objektif olarak ortaya konmuştur.

The personality traits and psychological symptoms of 25 women who met DSM-III-R criteria for late luteal phase dysphoric disorder, the category that delineates strict criteria for the condition referred as premenstrual syndrome (PMS), were evaluated. For this purpose each group was given Modified Moos Menstrual Distress Questionnaire (MMDQ) and Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI). According to the results, PMS group was found to convert psychological problems into somatic complaints. It was also found that women with PMS experienced increased physical and psychological symptomatology during the late luteal phase and this was shown with MMPI objectively
