Amaç: Bu çalışmada, bölgemizde 7-12 yaş grubu çocuklarda enürezis nokturna vakalarının sıklık ve
demografik-sosyokültürel özelliklerinin araştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Bu çalışma, kentsel kesimde 7-12
yaş grubundan 500 öğrenci üzerinde anket yöntemi ile yapılmıştır. Anket formunda teşhise yönelik sorular,
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV) teşhis kriterlerini esas alacak tarzda
hazırlanmıştır. Sonuçlar: Araştırma grubuna alınan erkek çocuklarda %23.1 ve kız çocuklarda %18.2 olmak
üzere tüm çocukların %20.8’inde enürezis nokturna tespit edilmiştir. Saptanan enurezis vakalarının %45.2’si
primer, %54.8’i ise sekonder enürezis olup primer enürezis prevalansı %9.4, sekonder enürezis prevalansı
%11.4 idi. Enürezis teşhisi konulan çocuklardan %48.1’i aktif enürezis, %51.9’u ise remisyonda enürezis idi.
Erkeklerde enürezis nokturna kızlara göre 1.4 kat daha fazla bulunmuştur. Sosyoekonomik düzeyi kötü olan
kesime hitap eden okullarda okuyanlarda ve soy geçmişinde enürezis öyküsü olanlarda enürezis nokturna
görülme oranı daha yüksek bulunmuştur. Tartışma: Kentsel kesimde enürezis nokturna görülme oranı
remisyonda olan vakaların da dahil edilmesi nedeniyle diğer bölgelere göre yüksek bulunmuştur. Enürezisin
sosyoekonomik seviyesi düşük kesimlerde daha sık görülmesi, çevresel stressörlerin daha fazla olması ve çare
arama imkanlarının daha kısıtlı olması ile ilişkili olabilir.

Objective: The aim of this study were to ascertain the prevalence of nocturnal enuresis and the predominant
factors associated with this in children aged 7-12 [year]s. Method: In the study, 500 children were chosen from
various primary schools with a socio-economic level of good, average and poor. A questionnaire was applied to
mothers by face to face. DSM-IV definition of enuresis was used. Results: The prevalence of nocturnal enuresis
for males was 23.1%, for females were 18.2% and the overall prevalence was 20.8%. Of the enuretic children,
45.2% was primary enuresis, 54.8% was secondary enuresis. The prevalence of primary and secondary enuresis
was 9.4% and 11.4% respectively. Of the enuretic cases 48.1% was active enuresis and 51.9% was remission
enuresis. The prevalence of nocturnal enuresis was 1.4 times in male children than female. Enuresis nocturnal
was found to be more common in children with a family history of bedwetting. The prevalence of enuresis was
higher when the child was from a school of low socio-economic status. Of the enuretic children only 43.3% had consulted a doctor. Conclusion: As the remission cases were included in our study, nocturnal enuresis was
higher in this study than previous studies reported. We think that the high rate of prevalence in low socioeconomic
level can be associated with the environmental stressors and limited behavioural techniques for the
management of enuresis.
