Bu çalışma adolesan dönemde depresyon ve anksiyete belirtilerinin birlikte görülmesini (comorbidity) araştırmak amacıyla planlanmıştır. Bu amaçla DSM-III-R tanı ölçütlerine göre depresif bozukluk ve anksiyete bozukluğu gösteren iki grup adolesana Beck Depresyon Envanteri ve Durumluk-Sürekli Kaygı Ölçeği uygulanmıştır. Her iki grupta da anksiyete ve depresyon belirtileri arasında istatistiksel düzeyde anlamlı ilişki saptanmıştır. Anksiyete belirtilerinde artma ile depresyon paralellik göstermektedir. Depresyon ve anksiyete belirtilerinin birlikte görülmesinin tanımlayıcı (deskriptif) yönden depresyon tanısıyla paralellik gösterdiği ve patogenez yönünden de iki durumun aynı çizgi üzerinde birbirine geçişli patolojiler olabileceği tartışılmıştır.

In this study comorbidity of depressive and anxiety symptoms among adolescents is investigated. Beck Depression Inventory and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory are applied to two groups of adolescents meeting the criteria of depressive disorders and anxiety disorders on the basis of DSM-III-R. The results showed that the adolescents with depressive disorder reported more depressive and anxiety symptoms compared to those with anxiety disorder, and the difference had statistical significance. In both groups anxiety symptoms showede high correalations with depressive symptoms. It is concluded that the comorbid states of anxiety and depression are more related to the diagnosis of depressive disorders than anxiety disorders. The results also supported the evidence of anxiety and depression being on the same continuum pathogenetically.
