Günümüzde deliryum, bilinç bulanıklığı ve konfüzyn terimleri gerek psikiyatri kliniklerinde gerekse diğer tıp branşlarında oldukça sık kullanılan terimlerdir; ancak dünyada ve ülkemizde bu terimlerin hangi klinik görünümleri tanımladığı konusunda bir görüş birliği yoktur. Bu yazıda bu üç terimin tarihsel gelişimi konusunda bilgi verilmiş ve son psikiyatri sınıflandırma sistemlerindeki durumları ele alınmıştır.

The terms delirium, clouding of consciousness and confusion are frequently used in psychiatry clinics as well as in other branches of medicine. Nevertheless, in the world and in our country the problem of assigning each of these terms to a specific clinical manifestation has led to much controversy. This paper reviews the historical background of these three trems and discusses their use and position in current psychiatric classification systems.
