Hermine vn Hug-Hellmuth Viyana Psikanaliz Cemiyeti içinde sistemli çocuk psikanalizini ilk başlatan kişidir. Kariyerinin ilk yıllarında gerek Freud, gerekse Cemiyet tarafından desteklenmiş ve kısa sürede bu alandaki tek otorite haline gelmiştir. Çocuk psikanalizinde oyunun, serbest çağrışımın yerini alabileceği düşüncesiyle M. Klein’a örnek olmuştur. Ancak, yapıtlarının çoğuna materyel olan yeğeni tarafından vahşi bir biçimde öldürülmesinin ardından sistemli bir unutuluşa maruz kalmıştır. S. Freud ve M. Klein’in çocuk psikanalizi ile ilgili yazılarının kronolojik açıdan gözden geçirilmesi, Hermini von Hug-Hellmuth’un yapıtlarından çok ölüm biçimiyle çağdaşlarının çocuk psikanalizine bakışlarını etkilediğini düşündürmektedir.

Hermine von Hug-Hellmuth was the pioneer of systematic child psychoanalysis in the Vienna Psycho-Analytical Association. In the beginning of her career she was supported both by Freud and by the Association and in a short period of time she became the only authority in this field. She inspired M. Klein with her idea of using children’s play as an alternative to free association in the psychoanalysis of children. However, since she was violently murdered by her nephew who was the subject of most of her writings, she has been systematically forgotten. A chronological overlook of the writings of M. Klein and S. Freud on child psychoanalysis makes us think that it is the way how Hermine von Hug-Hellmuth died that affected the perspectives of her fellows rather than her writings.
