Form and Content of Compulsions in a Group of Patients with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
The aim of this study is to analyse compulsions of patients with obsessive compulsive disorder (DSM-III-R) in terms of content and form. 45 in and outpatients were interviewed by using SCID-OP and -P versions and compulsions detected were classified according to a system proposed by Khanna and Channabasavanna. Security themes in the form of checking and washing themes in the form of repeating were the most prevalent themes (62.2% and 60.0% respetively). Themes of specific and daily activities, and embarrassing behavior were found to be less prevalent. The interrater reliability of the classification system was satisfactory in general.
