Yaklaşık 100 yıldır şizofreninin nedenleri üzerinde çeşitli araştırmalar yapılmaktadır. Günümüzün ileri teknolojik olanakları ile yapılan araştırmalar sonucunda, hastaların beyinlerinde bir dizi morfolojik değişikliklerin varlığı kabul edilmektedir. Hücre göçü bozukluğu temeline dayanan embriyolojik hipotez ve dopaminerjik bozukluk kavramına yeni perspektifler kazandıran çift yönlü dopamin hipotezi morfolojik ve fizyolojik patogeneze ciddi bir yaklaşım getirmekle birlikte etyolojiyi ele almamaktadır. Hastaların doğum tarihleri ile viral epidemiler arasında ilişki kurulması temeline dayanan viral etyoloji hipotezi, otoimmün hipotez ile ilişkili olarak konu üzerine günümüzdeki en önemli yaklaşımlardan biridir. Bu derlemede, viral otoimmün hipotez, hastalığın morfopatogenez ve fizyopatogenezine yönelik bir etyolojik yaklaşım olarak tartışılmaya çalışılmıştır.

The etiology of schizophrenia is investigated since the end of the 19th century. According to the results of investigations. Embriological hypothesis based on the pathological cell migration theory and bidirectional dopaminergic hypothesis, which is a new apprach to the morphological and physiological pathogenesis of the disease, are not explaining the etiology. Indeed, the viral etiology hypothesis, based on the relationships between viral epidemics and the date of birth of the schizophrenic patients, is one of the most important appraches to the problem according to its relation ship to the autoimmune hypothesis. In this review, the viral otoimmune hypothesis is discussed as an etiological explanation of the approaches to the morphopathogenesis and physiopathogenesis of the disease.
