Bu çalışmada, yaşın kontrol odağı üzerine etkisi ve kontrol odağının anksiyete ve depresyonla ilişkisi araştırılmıştır. Psikiyatrik bir patoloji bildirmeyen, çeşitli yaşlardan, rastgele seçilmiş 126 kişide, iç kontrol odağının ileri yaş ile bağıntılı olduğu bulunmuştur. İkinci olarak, panik bozukluğu (n: 33) ve major depresif bozukluk (n: 27) olguları, psikiyatrik bir patolojisi bulunmayan ve panik bozukluğu grubuyla cinsiyet ve yaşa göre eşleştirilerek oluşturulan kontrol grubundan (n: 33) anlamlı düzeyde daha yüksek kontrol odağı puanları almışlardır. Panik bozukluğu ve major depresif bozukluk grupları arasında ise, kontrol odağı puanları açısından anlamlı bir fark bulunmamıştır. Son olarak, panik bozukluğu ve major depresif bozukluk olguları birlikte ele alındığında (n: 60), kontrol odağının dışsallık boyutu ile anksiyete ve depresyonun şiddeti arasında pozitif bağıntı odağı olduğu saptanmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular literatür ışığında tartışılmıştır.

In this study, the effect of age on locus of control and the relationship of locus of control with anxiety and depression were investigated. Internal locus of control was correlated with older age in 126 normal controls selected randomly from different ages. Secondly, the groups of panic disorder (n: 33) and major depressive disorder (n: 27) had significantly higher locus of control scores when compared to the control group (n: 33) which had no psychiatric pathology and which was matched with the group of panic disorder according to gender and age. No significant difference was found between the cases of panic disorder and major depressive disorder with respect to locus of control. Finally, when the two groups were pooled together, there was a positive correlation between the dimension of externality and severity of anxiety and depression. The findings were discussed in the view of literature.
