Üç nedensel etmen tipinin akıl hastalığını tanıma, arzulanan sosyal mesafe, beklenebilecek duygusal ve fiziksel yük, ruhsal sağlığa beklenebilecek olumsuz etki, tedavi gerekliliği, prognoz ve tercih edilen tedavi modalitesi üzerine etkileri araştırıldı. Uyarım aracı olarak belirli nedensel etmenlerin yeraldığı iki psikopatoloji tipinin tariflendiği örnek olgular kullanıldı ve bu olgular ile ilgili tutumlara bir anket ile değerlendirildi. İstatistiksel analiz neden tipinin olgularla ilgili tutumlarda anlamlı farklılık yapmadığını gösterdi. Psikopatoloji tipi sosyal mesafeyi, akıl hastalığını tanımayı, beklenebilecek fiziksel yükü ve prognozu anlamlı seviyede etkiledi. Sonuçlar daha önceki bulgular çerçevesinde tartışıldı.

The effects of three types of causative factors on recognition of mental illness, desired social distance, expected emotional and physical burden, expected negative influence on one’s mental health, necessity of treatment, prognosis, and preferred treatment modality were assessed in a sample of general public. Vignettes representing two types of psychopathology with particular types of causative factors were utilized as the stimulus material and attitudes toward those descriptions were assessed with the use of a questionnaire. Statistical analysis showed that the type of cause did not make a significant difference in the attitudes towards the vignettes. On the other hand, the type of psychopathology significantly influenced social distance, recognition of mental illness, expected physical burden and prognosis. The results were discussed within the context of previous findings.
