Göz Hareketleriyle Duyarsızlaştırma ve Yeniden İşleme (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing: EMDR), travmatik ve olumsuz yaşam deneyimlerinin neden olduğu duygusal sorunları sistematik göz hareketleryle tedavi eden psikolojik bir terapi yöntemidir. EMDR'nin erişkin travma sonrası stres bozukluğu (TSSB) hastalarında etkinliğinin gösterilmesinin ardından bu terapi yöntemi TSSB'si bulunan çocuk ve ergenlerde de kullanılmıştır. Bu yazıda EMDR yöntemi konusunda okuyuculara genel bilgi verilmesi ve EMDR'nin çocuk ve ergen ruh sağlığı ve hastalıklarındaki yerinin tartışılması amaçlanmaktadır. Literatürde çocuk ve ergenlerde TSSB'da EMDR'nin etkinliğini araştıran çeşitli çalışmalar bulunmaktadır. Bu çalışmalar incelendiğinde EMDR'nin çocuk ve ergen TSSB hastalarında tek başına etkili olduğunu söylemek güçtür. Ancak özellikle TSSB kliniği oturmuş olan seçilmiş olgularda bilişsel davranışçı terapi ya da diğer tedavi seçenekleriyle birlikte kullanılmasının faydalı sonuçlarının olduğu görülmektedir. EMDR ile diğer psikoterapi yöntemlerinin karşılaştırıldığı randomize kontrollü çalışmaların sayısının azlığı göz önünde bulundurulduğunda çocuk ve ergen yaş grubunda EMDR konusunda yapılacak çok daha fazla çalışmaya ihtiyaç olduğu düşüncesindeyiz.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reporcessing (EMDR) is a psychological therapy method which treats emotional problems caused by traumatic and unfavorable life experiences with systematic eye movements. After EMDR's effectiveness showing on adult post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) patients, this therapy method has also been used on children and adolescents. In this article, it is aimed to give the readers the general data about EMDR method and its place on children and adolescents' mental health and diseases. In the literature there are various studies investigating the efficacy of EMDR in children and adolescents with PTSD. When these studies are examined it is difficult to say that the use of EMDR alone is effective in children and adolescent PTSD patients. However, especially in selected cases it appears that there are beneficial consequences of using EMDR with cognitive behavioral therapy or other treatment options. Considering the limited number of the randomized controlled studies in which EMDR and other psychotherapy methods are compared, we think that we need more studies on children and adolescent age group on EMDR.
