The Effects of Psychodrama and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy-Based Group Work on Test Anxiety
The aim of this research conducted as a quasi-experimental study with two experimental and control
groups was to examine comparatively the effects of cognitive behavioral therapy and psychodrama
based psychological counseling practices on test anxiety of 32 high school students. Psychodrama
techniques were used in the first experimental group while cognitive behavioral therapy techniques
were used in the second experimental group; nothing was done in the control group. Compared to
the control group of both psychodrama and cognitive behavioral therapy groups’ test anxiety total
score, feelings, and delusion scores decreased; in addition, psychodrama also decreased the state
anxiety score; it has been observed that both practices did not cause a decrease in the state anxiety
score of cognitive behavioral therapy in addition to the continuous anxiety scores. Test Anxiety
Inventory and State Trait Anxiety Inventory were used as pre-test and post-test. Results showed that
psychodrama was found to be more effective than cognitive behavioral group therapy on total test
anxiety score including subscales and state anxiety level.
