Etiology of Obsessive Compulsive Disorders
Obsessive-compulsive disorder(OCD) is charactarized by repetetive obsessions and/or compulsions. OCD has usually chronic course and affects a person's functionality significantly. The lifetime prevalence of OCD is 2-3%, and OCD is the fourth most common psychiatric disorder. Many studies are done to determine-investigate the etiology of OCD and it has been shown that multiple factors have a role in the development of OCD. These are neuroanatomical, neurochemical, neuroimmonulogic, genetic, environmental-personal, psychodynamic, cognitive and behavioral factors. In this paper, we will discuss the factors which have important role in OCD etiology according recent studies.
