Amaç: Şizofren hastalarda cinsiyete bağlı klinik belirtilerde farklılık olduğu çeşitli çalışmalarda belirtilmiştir.
Bu farklılığın beyin fonksiyonlarına ya da seks hormonlarına bağlı olduğu ileri sürülmüştür. Fakat şizofrenide
cinsiyete bağlı olarak klinik belirtilerde değişiklik olmadığını belirten yayınlarda bulunmaktadır. Bu çalışmada
şizofren hastalarda cinsiyetin klinik belirtilere etkisi olup olmadığını gözlemlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır.
Yöntem: DSM-IV tanı kriterlerine göre şizofreni tanısı alan 95'i erkek, 65'i kadın, 160 hasta çalışma kapsamına
alınmıştır. Tüm hastalara Kısa Psikiyatrik Değerlendirme Ölçeği, Pozitif Belirtileri Değerlendirme Ölçeği,
Negatif Belirtileri Değerlendirme Ölçeği, Klinik Global Şiddet Ölçeği kullanılarak hastalık belirtileri
incelenmiştir. Sonuç: Kısa Psikiyatrik Değerlendirme Ölçeği, Pozitif Belirtileri Değerlendirme Ölçeği, Negatif
Belirtileri Değerlendirme Ölçeği toplam ve alt skor puanlarının kadın ve erkek şizofren hastalar arasında
istatistiksel bir farklılık olmadığı saptanmıştır (p>0.05). Aynı şekilde Klinik Global Şiddet Ölçeğinde de her iki
cinsiyet açısından farklılık gözlenmemiştir (p>0.05). Tartışma: Bu çalışmanın sonuçlarına göre, şizofrenide her
iki cinsiyet arasında klinik belirtiler açısından herhangi bir farklılık olmadığı saptanmıştır. Bu sonuçlar
cinsiyete göre şizofrenide alt bir grup olması gerektiğini belirten yayınlar ile uyumlu bulunmamıştır.

Objective: The presence of clinical differences caused by gender in patients with schizophrenia had been
reported in many articles. It was suggested that these differences were the results of brain functions or the sexual
hormone. On the contrary, there were other articles which suggested that there were no clinical differences in
schizophrenia caused by gender. This study designed for to determine the effects of gender on clinical findings of
schizophrenia. Methods: 160 patients which were diagnosed schizophrenia by DSM-IV criteria were included in
this study. 95 of them were men and the other 65 were women. All patients were examinated by Brief Psychiatric
Rating Scale, Scale for the Assesment of Negative Symptoms, Scale for the Assesment of Positive Symptoms,
Clinical Global Impression Scale. Results: There were no significant statistical differences between the total and
lower scores of men and women found by Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale, Scale for the Assesment of Negative
Symptoms, Scale for the Assesment of Positive Symptoms (p>0.05). There were no differences observed by
Clinical Global Impression Scale between the genders too (p>0.05). Conclusion: According to the results of this
study we concluded that there were no differences in clinical findings of schizophrenia between the two sex.
These results did not support the articles which suggested that there must be a subgroup in schizopherina
patients by gender.
