Hastasının intihar girişiminde bulunup yaşamına son vermesi bir psikiyatrist için üzücü verici bir deneyim olmakta ve çeşitli ruhsal tepkilere yol açmaktadır. Literatürde tamamlanmış intiharlarda psikiyatristler tarafından en sık verilen ruhsal tepkiler; şok, inkar, depersonalizasyon, üzüntü, utanç, suçluluk, yetersizlik, değersizlik, suçlanmak ve hatalı bulunmaktan korkma, öfke, rahatlama ve travma sonrası stres bozukluğu belirtileridir. Psikiyatristlerin kendi duygu ve düşüncelerinin farkında olması, intiharın her zaman önlenebilir bir durum olmadığını kabul etmesi gerekmektedir. Bu konu ile ilgili farkındalık oluşması ve başetme becerilerinin geliştirmesi amacıyla çekirdek müfredat kapsamında psikiyatri uzmanlık eğitiminde ele alınmasının önemli olduğu düşüncesindeyiz.

The suicide attempt of the patient and giving end to his or her life is a sad experience for the psychiatrist and can cause to come out different emotional responses. The most common emotional responses of a psychiatrists to a committed suicide attempt are reported in literature as; shock, denial, depersonalization, sadness, shame, guilt, inadequacy, worthlessness, fear of blame, anger, relief and posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms. For this reason the psychiatrists should be aware of their thoughts and emotions and accept that suicide is not always preventable. We think awareness for this issue should be created and skills should be educated according to the literature while the assistant training process.
