Çocuk ve ergenlerde görülen psikotik bozuklukların en tipik örneği Çocukluk Çağı Şizofrenisidir. Çocukluk çağında da Şizofreni ve diğer psikotik bozuklukların tanısı DSM-IV, DSM-5 veya ICD-10 gibi kategorik tanı sistemlerinin içinde yer alan ve yaşa göre değişmeyen ölçütlere göre konmaktadır. Bu gözden geçirmede Çocukluk Çağı Şizofrenisinin nörobiyolojik etiyolojisiyle ilgili güncel gelişmeler değerlendirilecektir. Değerlendirme; toplumda eşik altı psikotik belirtilerin yaygınlığı ve yordayıcılığı, şizofreni ve gelişim ilişkisini açıklamak için öne sürülen teoriler, şizofreni tanılı hastalarda meta-analizlerle saptanan farklar, parvalbumin nöronları ve işlevlerindeki bozukluğun patofizyoloji açısından önemi başlıkları altında yapılacaktır.

Childhood Schizophrenia is the prototypical example of psychotic disorders in children and adolescents. Schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders in childhood are also diagnosed according to age-invariant criteria listed in categorical diagnostic systems such as DSM-IV, DSM-5 and ICD-10. This review will evaluate recent developments related with the neurobiological etiology of childhood Schizophrenia. The evaluation will be conducted under the headings of prevalence and predictive value of subthreshold psychotic symptoms in the community, theories set forth to explain the relationship between schizophrenia and development, differences found in meta-analyses of patients with Schizophrenia, and the significance of parvalbumine neurons and their dysfunction in terms of pathophysiology.
