Amaç: Bu çalışma, psikiyatri stajının akıl hastalıkları ile ilgili tutumlar üzerine etkisini değerlendirmek için yürütülmüştür. Yöntem: Uç haftalık psikiyatri stajı alan tıp öğrencilerinin oluşturduğu bir deneysel grup, oftalmoloji stajı alan öğrencilerin oluşturduğu bir kontrol grubu ile karşılaştırılmıştır. Psikiyatri stajı hasta ile doğrudan ilişki ve sınıfta eğitimi içeriyordu. Üç farklı örnek olgu ile ilgili tutumlar staj öncesi ve sonrası değerlendirildi. Bulgular: Analizler, oftalmoloji grubu ile kıyaslandığında, psikiyatri grubunun tutumlarında anlamlı değişmeler olmadığını gösterdi. Tartışma: Sonuçlar daha önceki bulgular çerçevesinde tartışıldı ve deneyimin özgül özelliklerine odaklaşan daha analitik bir yaklaşım önerildi.

Objective: The present study was carried out to evaluate the influence of psychiatric training, including direct patient cantact, on attitudes toward mental illness. Method: An experimental group consisiting of medical students going through their 3-week training in psychiatry was compared with a control group going through the training in ophthalmology. The psychiatric training involved direct patient contact and course work. Attitudes toward three different vignettes were assessed before and after training. Results: Analyses showed that there were no significant changes in the attitudes of the psychiatry group when compared to the ophthalmology group. Conclusion: The results were discussed with in the context of previous findings and a more analytical approach, focusing on the specific features of exposure, was suggested.
