Davranışsal sağlık alanındaki araştırm alar sağlık, hastalık ve davranışın bebeklikten başlayarak tüm yaşam boyunca birbirini karşılıklı olarak etkileyen süreçler olduğunu göstermektedir. Söz konusu gelişimsel bulgulardan hareketle bu makale, çocukların sağlık davranışlarında ve sağlık ile hastalık anlayışlarında bilişsel ve sosyal-duygusal gelişimin önemine dikkat çekmektedir. Gelişimsel bulgular içinde özellikle düşünce yapılarının ve özerkliğin gelişimiyle ilgili olanlar ele alınmıştır. Gelişimsel özellikler hem çocukluk ve ergenlikteki sağlık ve hastalığı etkilemekte hem de bu yaşlardaki sağlık ve hastalıktan etkilenmektedir. Bilişsel ve sosyal-duygusal gelişim, sağlığın oluşturulmasında, hastalığın önlenmesi ve tedavisinde önemli doğurgulara sahiptir. Bu yüzden sağlığı oluşturma ve hastalığı tedaviye yönelik tüm programların, çocukların değişen gelişimsel ve bireysel ihtiyaçlarına ve içinde yaşadıkları çevresel koşullara uymasının gereği tartışılmıştır

This article try to give a brief report on the importance of some cognitive and socio-emotional developmental processes such as formal thinking and autonomy on children health behaviors and in their understanding of health and illness concepts. It was clearly indicated that health, illness and behavior reciprocally influence each other through the life span from begining in infancy. Developmental features in childhood and adolescence are both antecedents and consequences of health and illness in those years. The results in the field of behavioral health revealed that cognitive and socio-emotional development have some important implications for promoting health, preventing disease and treating illness. Thus it was concluded that these kinds of interventions should fit the changing developmental and individual needs of the children and also their environmental conditions.
