Amaç: DSM-III-R' de depresif bozukluklar kümesi altında yer alan majör depresyon ve distimi tanım gereği belirtilerin süresi ve şiddeti açısından farklılıklar taşımaktadır. Bu çalışmada, belirti örüntüsü yönünden her iki grup bozukluk arasındaki farklılıkların araştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Bu amaçla, bir genel eğitim hastanesi psikiyatri polikliniğine başvuran ve DSM-III- R'ye göre majör depresyon tanısı konan 28 ve distimi tanısı konan 32 hasta çalışmaya alınmıştır. Belirtiler Hamilton Depresyonu Derecelendirme Ölçeği (HDDÖj ve Hamilton Anksiyeteyi Derecelendirme Ölçeği (HADÖ) kullanılarak belirlenmiştir. Bulgular: İstatistiksel çözümleme sonucunda, majör depresyon için gerilim duygusu, genitoüriner sistem belirtileri ayrıt edici olarak saptanmıştır. Tartşma: Her iki bozukluğun hem nicel hem nitel belirti örüntüsü açısından ayrıldığı ve majör depresyonda melankolik, distimide ise nevrotik belirtilerin egemen olduğu gösterilmiştir.

Objective: Major depression and dysthymia, categorized under depressive disorders in DSM-III-R are differentiated in terms of their duration and seventy by definition. The aim of this study is to compare the differences in symptomatology of these two disorders. Method: Twenty eight patients with major depression and 32 patients with dysthymia who attended an outpatient department of a general teaching hospital and diagnosed acording to DSM-III-R were included in the study. Symptomatology were determined by using Hamilton Raing Scale for Depression (HRSD) and Hamilton Rating Scale for Anxiety (HRSA). Results: Statistical analysis pointed out that for major depression, feeling of tension, depressed mood, anorexia, and difficulties in work and activities; for dysthymia, symptoms of genitourinary tract were discri- minating. Conclusion: These results pointed out that these two disorders were differentiated in terms of symptomatology both quantitatively and qualitatively; and melancholic symptoms dominanting in major depression, neurotic symptoms in dyshymia.
