Amaç: Anksiyete ve depresyon arasındaki ilişki uzun zamandır klinisyenler, araştırmacılar
ve kuramcılar arasında tartışma konusudur. Makalemizde anksiyete ve depresyonun çok
yönlü ilişkisinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır.
Yöntem: Konuyla ilgili literatür taranmış, tartışma ve bulgular özetlenmiştir.
Bulgular: Depresyon ve anksiyete bulguları birbirlerine benzerler. Anksiyete ve depresyon
ilişkisi genellikle karma anksiyete depresyon ve komorbid durumlar olmak üzere iki bölümde
incelenir. Genetik, nörobiyolojik, nöroendokrin sebepler ve bâzı kişilik özellikleri anksiyete
ve depresyon için risk faktörleridir. Komorbidite istisnâdan çok kuraldır ve anksiyete bozuklukları
daha sonraki dönemlerde majör depresyon epizodu gelişimi için risk faktörleridir.
Sonuç: Anksiyete ve depresyonun ayırıcı tanısı için yol gösterici ölçütler olmakla beraber,
pratikte bulgular genellikle birbirine karışır ve tanı koymak zor olabilir. Tanı koymakta özellikle
yararı olan birkaç bulgu varsa da, genel olarak tüm klinik tablo dikkate alınmalıdır.

Objective: The relationship between anxiety and depression has been a subject of discussion
among clinicians, researchers and theoreticians since a long time. In this article, the
relationship of anxiety and depression is reviewed.
Method: The current literature about the subject is screened and the findings and discussions
are summarized.
Findings: The clinical manifestations of the anxiety and depression are fairly similar. The
relationship between the anxiety and depression can usually be described in two groups:
Mixed anxiety depression and other comorbid conditions. Genetic, neurobiological and neuroendocrine
factors and some personality traits are among the risk factors for anxiety and
depressive disorders, and anxiety disorders facilitate occurrence of depressive episodes.
Comorbidity of depression and anxiety is a rule rather than an exception.
Conclusion: Although there are some guiding criteria for the differential diagnosis of anxiety
and depression in practice, the signs and symptoms are usually similar and making the
differential diagnosis may be difficult. There are a few particularly useful signs for the diagnoses
but all clinical situations must be considered completely.
