Bu çalışmada, göz kontağı oldukça sınırlı olan, gereksinimlerini sözel olarak ifade edebilen ancak ekolalik konuşma özelliği gösteren, temel özbakım becerilerini yardımsız yapabilen basit düzeyde okuma - yazma becerisi olan ve herhangi bir problem davranışı gözlenmeyen 12 yaşında otistik erkek bir çocuk ve anne-babasının kısa süreli eğitim programlarından sağladıkları yarar incelenmiştir. Çalışma, iki ayda bir on beş günlük sürelerle bir yıl içinde yapılmıştır. Bu program on beş gün süre ile 1,5 saat şeklinde yürütülmüştür. Çocuğun kazanması hedeflenen beceriler belirlenerek bu becerileri anne- babanın gözlemesi ve eğitimcinin denetiminde uygulama yapmaları sağlanmıştır. Bu çalışma sonucunda, sürekli eğitim programlan içinde yer alamayan otistik bir çocuk ve ailesinin kısa süreli eğitim programından yararlanabildiği görülmüştür.

In this study, tbe benefits of a short-term educational program for a 12 year-old autistic boy and his parents were examined. The subject was a boy with limited eye contact and predominantly ecolalic speech; however, he was able express his needs verbally. He was able to perform self-care skills without any help and also had reading and writing skills. None of the behavior problems typical of autistic children were observed. In the study, the skills which were expected to be acquired by the child (academic-communication-independent life skills) were determined. The program to improve those skills were implemented at the school while the parents observed. The study was implemented for fifteen-day periods, every two months for a year. The child was seen for one and a half hour everyday within the fifteen-day period. The parents were also trained under supervision to implement the program at home. At the end of this program, it was observed that an autistic child and his parents who were unable to take part in a permanenl education program, benefited from this short-term education programs and the home-scbool relationship was also established.
