Dil çalışmanın amacı, çalışma durumu, cinsiyet ve cinsiyet rollerinin ev işi yapma sıklığı ve depresyon üzerindeki etkilerini; bunları yordamadaki katkıları ile aralarındaki ilişkileri incelemektir. Deneklere (kadın N = 200, erkek N - 200), Ev İşleri Ölçeği, Bern Cinsiyet Rolleri Envanteri ve Beck Depresyon Ölçeği uygulanmıştır. Ev işi yapma sıklığında, cinsiyet rolleri ve çatışma durumu bakımından sadece kadınlar arasında farklılık gözlenmiştir. Ev işi yapma sıklığını yordamada, kadınlar için, kadınlık puanı ve çalışma durumunun anlamlı katkılarının olduğu, erkekler için ise hiç bir değişkenin anlamlı bir katkısının olmadığı görülmüştür. Farklı cinsiyet rollerindeki kadınların depresyon puanları arasında anlamlı farklılık yoktur: ama androjen erkeklerin depresyon puanları diğerlerinkinden daha düşüktür. Depresyon puanını yordamada, kadınlar için çalışma durumunun, erkekler için ise kadınlık puanı, çalışma durumu ve ev işi puanının önemli katkıları vardır. Ev işi puanıyla depresyon puanı arasındaki ilişki kadınlarda pozitif, erkeklerde negatiftir. Bulgular literatürdeki bilgiler ışığında tartışılmıştır.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of employment status, sex and gender roles on the frequency of household activities and depression, and to investigate the contribution of these variables on the prediction of housework frequency and depression level, and the relationships among the frequency of housework, depression and sex role scores. The Scale of Housework Activities, Bem Sex Roles Inventory and Beck Depression Inventory were administered to 200 women and 200 men. In terms of the frequency of household activities, there were only significant differences among women with different employment status and gender roles. As expected, in predicting the frequency of housework, the femininity score and the employment status had significant contributions for women. For men however, none of the predictors had significant contributions in predicting the frequency of housework. Although there were no significant difference between women with different gender roles in terms of depression scores, the androgynous men were found less depressive than the others. In predicting depression the only significant variable for women was the employment status, whereas for men the femininity and housework scores and the employment status had significant contributions. The correlations between housework and depression scores were positive for women and negative for men. Results were discussed in the light of the literature.
