Bellek engellenmesi bilginin geçici olarak hatırlanamaması durumudur. Bu araştırma bellek engellenmesi ölçen malzemelerin Türkçe’de oluşturulması ve bu malzemelerle gözlemlenen bellek engellenmesi ve kolaylaştırma etkilerinin tekrarlanmasını hedeflemiştir. Bellek engellenmesi ölçen malzemeler bir hedef sözcük (örn., ALLERGY), hedef sözcüğe yazım yönünden benzeyen bir rakip sözcük (örn., ANALOGY) ve hedef sözcükle doğru olarak tamamlanan ancak rakip sözcükle doğru olarak tamamlanmayan bir sözcük parçasından (örn., A_L_ _GY) oluşmaktadır. Deney 1’de benzer özelliklere sahip bir malzeme havuzu oluşturulmuş, hedef ve rakip sözcük için temel tamamlanma düzeyi toplanmıştır. İngilizce’deki malzemelerin kriterlerine uyan malzemeler seçilerek hedef ve rakip sözcük için yaklaşık ortalama aynı temel düzeyi verecek şekilde üç gruba ayrılmış ve bu malzemeler Deney 2’de kullanılmıştır. Deney 2’de öğrenme aşamasında hedef sözcüğe maruz kalmak sözcük parçasının hedef sözcükle tamamlanma oranını temel düzeye göre arttırmıştır, yani kolaylaştırma etkisi görülmüştür. Öğrenme aşamasında rakip sözcüğe maruz kalmak ise sözcük parçasının hedef sözcükle tamamlanma oranını temel düzeye göre azaltmış- tır, yani bellek engellenmesi etkisi görülmüştür. Sonuçlar oluşturulan bu malzemelerle literatürdeki temel bulguların tekrarlanabildiğini ve bu malzemelerin anadili Türkçe olan katılımcılar ile bilişsel ve psikolinguistik araştırmalarda kullanılabileceğini göstermiştir.

Memory block refers to a temporary inability to retrieve information. This study aimed to create the materials measuring memory block in Turkish, and to replicate the basic findings of memory block and facilitation. These materials consist of a target (e.g., ALLERGY), a competitor that is orthographically similar to the target (e.g., ANALOGY), and a word fragment that can be correctly completed by the target (e.g., A_L_ _GY), but not the competitor. In Experiment 1, a pool of items with similar characteristics was created and baseline completion rates were collected for the target and the competitor. Items that matched the characteristics of the ones in English were retained, and they were separated into three groups with approximately equal baselines for the target and the competitor, and were used in Experiment 2. Experiment 2 showed that being exposed to the target at study increases the target completion rate for the fragment above baseline, that is, there is facilitation. Being exposed to the competitor at study lowers the target completion rate below baseline level, that is, there is memory block. Basic findings in the literature can be replicated with these materials and these materials can be used in cognitive and psycholinguistic studies with Turkish speakers.
