Cinselliği ile ilgili bir sorun yaşadığında tedaviye ulaşma hakkı da bulunmaktadır. Cinsel İşlev Bozuklukları toplumda en sık rastlanan ruhsal bozukluklardır. Bununla birlikte tedavi başvurusu diğer ruhsal bozukluklara göre daha azdır. Cinsel sorun psikiyatri pratiğinde sadece bir cinsel işlev bozukluğu olarak çalışılmaz. Bir çok ruhsal bozukluğun belirti kümesinde cinsel sorun gözlenmektedir. Psikiyatride kullanılan ilaçların büyük bir bölümü cinsel işlevler üzerine olumsuz etki yapar ve hastalarda iyatrojenik cinsel işlev bozukluğu gelişebilir. Psikiyatri uzmanı mesleki uygulamalarında cinsel sorun ile çalışmak zorundadır. Bu nedenle nasıl öykü alacağını, hasta ile cinsel sorunu ve cinselliği nasıl konuşacağını, nasıl müdahale edeceğini bilmelidir. Cinsel sorun sıklıkla başka bir cinsel soruna, uzun vadede depresyon ve anksiyete bozukluklarına yol açmakta, kişinin sosyal işlevselliğini bozmaktadır. Psikiyatri uzmanınca cinsel terapi uygulaması yapılmasa bile cinsel danışmanlık yapılmalı ve sorunun büyümesi engellenmelidir. Bu nedenle psikiyatristlerin cinsel terapi ile ilgili temel teknikleri, terapideki sınır kavramını ve etik kodları, hasta ve çevresine yapılacak tıbbi müdahalelerde ana referans noktası olan cinsel hakları bilmesi gerekmektedir. Toplumsal cinsiyetçi normları tanıyıp cinsel sorunu oluşturan ya da artıran cinsel mitleri hastalar ile çalışmalıdır. Cinsel haklar kişi hak ve özgürlüklerinden olup uluslar arası kabul edilmiş metinlerden biridir. Ülkemizde psikiyatri eğitiminde cinsellik kavramı ve cinsel terapi eğitimleri sınırlı kurumlarda verilmektedir. Bu durum hem psikiyatri uzmanlarının mesleki uygulamalarında yetersizliğe yol açmakta, hem de cinsel sağlık hakkı olan bireyler açısından sağlığa ulaşmayı engellemektedir. Cinsel terapi eğitimlerinin kurumlarda yaygınlaşması ve eğitim açığının giderilmesi, psikiyatrinin hızla çözmesi gereken bir sorunudur.

However, treatment seeking behavior and admission is much less encountered compared to the other mental disorders. The states of managing sexual problems is not limited to the sexual dysfunction disorder field in psychiatry profession but also serves as a section of core symptoms in various psychiatric disorders. A substantial part of psychotropic medications used in psychiatry, influence sexual function unfavorably and lead to occurrence of iatrogenic sexual dysfunction disorders. A psychiatry specialist has to become aware and evaluate sexual problems in practice thus the necessity of meeting the skills such as how to obtain information through anamnesis, to adopt the appropriate conversation style whilst mentioning sexual problems and sexuality with the patient and how to intervene arises. A particular sexual problem frequently induces another sexual problem and in long term, depression and anxiety disorders evoke in addition to social functional impairment of the individual. Even though in some circumstances sex therapy is not attempted by the specialist for various reasons, sexual consultation must be performed and limit the extension of the problem. Therefore any psychiatrist should bare the knowledge of fundamental techniques of sex therapy, boundary concept and ethical codes within the therapy and consider the rights as a main reference point in the course of intervention to the patient and the patient’s environment. The clinician must address all governing gendered and sexist norms and discourses, then manage the constitutive or contributive myths. Sexual rights are regarded as universal human rights and referred among internationally accepted documents. In our country, notion of sexuality and sex therapy training is provided by only limited number of institutions within psychiatric education. This situation leads to both inadequacy in professional practice of psychiatry specialists as well as withhold accessibility to health care of the individuals who have the right to sexual health care. Dissemination of sex therapy throughout the institutions and covering the training gap are main issues in which rapid solutions should be introduced.
