İyot eksikliğinin görsel algılama üzerindeki etkileri

Amaç: Bu çalışmada, bir iyot eksi kliği bölgesinde, guatrlı çocuklardaki görsel algılamanın guatrsız çocuklara göre farklı olup olmadığının değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Ayrıca idrar iyodu düzeylerinin görsel algılama üzerindeki etkileri araştırılmıştır.
Yöntem: Çalışma belirlenen bölge okullarında, yaşları 6-12 arasında olan çocuklar üzerinde yapılmıştır: Pan American Health Organization 'un alan araştırmaları için geliştirdiği yöntemle yapılan muayenede guatrı saptanan 196 çocuk ile guatrı olmayan ve kontrol grubu olarak kabul edilen 123 çocuk çalışmaya alınmıştır. Çocukların tümüne bilgi toplama formu dağıtılarak aileleri çalışma konusunda bilgilendirilmiş ve hastalıkları,kullandıkları ilaçlar konusunda bilgi alınmıştır. Bütün çocuklara Bender-Gestalt görsel algılama ve motor koordinasvon testi uygulanmış ve çocuklardan idrar iyodu için idrar örnekleri alınmıştır.
Bulgular: Guatrlı grupta yer alan çocukların Bender-Gestalt toplam hata puanları, kontrol grubunda yer alan çocuklara göre yüksek bulunmuştur (p< 0.05 ). Koppitz'in puanlama ölçütlerine göre 2, 8, 18a. hata türü guatrlı grupta yer alan çocuklar tarafından kontrol gruba göre daha fazla alınmıştır ( p< 0.05). İdrar iyodu 2mgr/dl'nin altında olan grubun Bender-Gestalt toplam hata puanları, idrar iyodu 2 mgr/ dl'nin üzerinde olan gruplardan yüksek bulunmuştur(p< 0.01). Ayrıca, idrar iyodu 2 mgr/dl'nin altında olan grubun Bender-Gestalt 2, 8, 12a, hata puanları idrar iyodu 2 mgr/dl'nin üzerinde olan gruplardan yüksek bulunmuştur. Bender-Gestalt toplam puanları ile guatr evreleri arasında anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmazken, idrar iyot düzeyleri ile Bender-Gestalt puanları arasında ters yönde korelatif ilişki olduğu bulunmuştur(p
Sonuç: Çalışmada iyot eksikliğinin görsel algılamayı, hem guatrın oluştuğu uzun dönemde, hem de henüz guatr oluşmadan bozduğu bulunmuştur.
Effects of iodine deficiency on visual perception
Purpose: In this study, the visual perception of children was compared to children without goitre in an iodine deficiency area. As well as that the differences between the visual perception of the children without goitre but have low urine iodine levels were compared to the ones without goitre and have normal urine iodine levels.
Method:The study was conducted in the predetermined school of the region on the children of 6-12 [year]s of age 196 children who were diagnosed to have goitre by the district method of Pan American Health Organisation and 123 children who were accepted as the control group were included in the study. All the children were distributed forms, the families were informed about their medication. All the children were applied Bender-Gestalt visual perception and motor coordination test and samples were taken for the determination of urine iodine.
Findings:Bender-Gestalt additive mistake points of children with goitre were higher than the control group(p<0.005).According to the Koppitz’s point criteria 2,8 and 18a mistake points were more often taken by the children with goitre when compared to the control group(p<0.005).The children with urine iodine levels were below 2 mgr/ dl have more Bender-Gestalt mistake points compared to the ones with urine iodine greater than 2mgr/ dl(p<0.001).As well as that the children with urine iodine levels were below 2mgr/ dl have more Bender-Gestalt 2,8 and 12a points compared to the ones with urine iodine greater than 2mgr/ dl(p<0.005). Although there were no significant correlation between Bender Gestalt additive additive points and the grade of goitre,there were negative correlation between the urinary iodine levels and Bender Gestalt mistake points.
Conclusion:In this study,iodine deficiency was found to impair visual perception both in the long period of goitre progression and at the before the onset of goitre.
