Amaç: Bireyler kültürlerinin kadınlık ve erkeklik tanımlarına göre, uygun davranışları öğrenerek cinsiyeti - ayrışmış (sex-typed) bireyler olurlar. Bu süreçte, çocuk kitaplarının etkisinden söz edilebilir. Bu araştırmanın amacı, ilkokul ders kitaplarını cinsiyet rolleri açısından incelemektir. Yöntem: Bu amaçla, ilkokul birinci, ücüncü ve beşinci sınıf Türkçe ve Hayat Bilgisi derslerine ait 6 kitap seçilmiştir. Kitaplardaki resimler - fotoğraflar ve metinler, içerdikleri kadınların ve erkeklerin sayılarını, rollerini ve etkinliklerini belirlemek, amacıyla incelenmiştir. Ayrıca kitaplar, metin içindeki yazıların yazarlarının ve konu kahramanlarının cinsiyeti bakımından da incelenmiştir. Bulgular: İnceleme sonucu. genelde kadınlara daha az sayıda yer verildiği gözlenmiştir. Erkeklerin daha çok mesleki rollerde ve etkinliklerde. kadınların ise daha çok anne rolünde ve evişi yaparken, çocuğu ile ilgilenirken gösterildiği anlaşılmaktadır. Tartışma: Bu sonuçlara göre, ilkokul ders kitaplarının cin- siyelleri-ayrıştırma sürecine katkıda bulunduğu söylenebilir.

Objective: Persons become sex-typed by learning appropriate behaviors according to the maleness and femaleness definitions of their culture. In this /irocess. it can be considered the effects of children books. The purpose if this examination was to examine the primary school textbooks in term of sex- roles. Methods: For this purpose, six textbooks of Turkish and Life Sciences courses of 1st, .'jrd and sib grades were chosen. The pictures-photographs and writlings in the books were examined to determine the frequency of male and female characters, their roles and activities, hi addition, the textbooks were examined according to sex of writes and main characters of writings in the text. Results: Rest ills indicated that the frequency of females ordinarily was less than males. Although males were shown in "motherhood" roles and doing houseworks or taking care of children. Conclusions: According to these results, it can be suggested that primary school text books cnotribute to the process of sex-typing.
