Amaç: Bu çalışmada üniversite öğrencilerinde internet bağımlılığının (İB) sigara ve alkol kullanımı ile ilişkisinin orta-ya konulması amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Çalışmaya Pamukkale Üniversitesi’nden 2096 öğrenci alınmıştır. Öğrenci-lere yaş, cinsiyet, alkol ve sigara kullanımı, internet kullanım süresi ve şekli gibi bilgilerin sorulduğu sosyodemografik veri formu, İnternet Bağımlılık Ölçeği (İBÖ) ve CAGE Testi verildi. Sonuçlar: Çalışma grubumuzda internet bağım-lılığı %8.6 oranlarında bulundu. Çalışmamızda internet bağımlılığı olan öğrencilerde sigara ve alkol kullanım oranla-rının internet bağımlılığı olmayan öğrencilere göre daha yüksek olduğu saptanmıştır. Sigara ve alkol kullanan öğren-cilerin İBÖ puanı kullanmayanlara göre anlamlı düzeyde daha yüksek bulundu. Çalışmamızda İBÖ puanları ile CAGE puanları arasında pozitif bir ilişki saptandı. İBÖ puanları arttığında alkol kullanım sıklığının anlamlı düzeyde arttığı görüldü. Çalışmamızda gruplar arasında günlük sigara kullanma miktarı açısından anlamlı bir farklılık saptan-madı, ancak internet bağımlılığı olan grupta ortalama sigara kullanma süresi internet bağımlılığı olmayan gruba göre daha yüksek bulundu. Sigara kullanma süresi ve günlük sigara kullanma miktarı arttığında İBÖ puanlarının da anlamlı düzeyde artış gösterdiği saptandı. Tartışma: Çalışmamızın bulgularına göre internet bağımlılığının üniversi-te öğrencileri arasında yaygın bir sorun olduğunu görülmektedir. İnternet bağımlılığının sigara ve alkol kullanımı ile ilişkili olduğu saptanmıştır.

Objective: The aim of this study is to reveal the relationship between internet addiction (IA) and smoking and alcohol use among university students. Method: 2096 students attending Pamukkale University were included in the study. Data collection tools were, Internet Addiction Scale (IAS), CAGE Test and Sociodemographic Data Form which was formed by the study authors for the present study to collect data about the student’s age, sex, alcohol and cigarette use history and internet use characteristics (time spent online, type etc.). Results: The prevalence of internet addiction was found as 8.6% in our study group. Higher rates of smoking and alcohol use were found among students with internet addiction. In addition, students who smoke and use alcohol had significantly higher IAS scores compared to the students without alcohol or cigarette use. In our study positive relationship was found between IAS scores and CAGE scores. The frequency of alcohol use was found to increase significantly as the IAS scores increase. There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of the daily cigarette consumption amount. However, the average time spent on cigarette use was significantly higher in the group with internet addic-tion. In addition IAS scores were found to increase significantly as the smoking year and the amount of daily ciga-rette smoking increased. Discussion: According to the findings of our study, internet addiction seems to be a com-mon problem among university students.
