Amaç: Bu çalışmada tıkınırcasına yeme bozukluğu (TYB) olan ve olmayan şişmanların aleksitimik özelliklerinin ve ruhsal belirtilerinin değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Şişmanlık yakınması nedeni ile baş vuran otuzaltı hasta ve otuzyedi normal kilolu birey Tıkanırcasına Yeme Bozukluğu (TYB) DSM-IV ölçütleri, Bulimiya Araştırma Testi, Toronto Aleksitimi Ölçeği ve SCL-90-R ölçeği ile değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular: Otuzaltı hastanın sekizi TYB ölçütlerini karşılamıştır. TYB olan şişman hastalarda SCL-PSDI, SCL-PST, SCL-somatizasyon, SCL-obsessif kompulsif ve kişiler arası alt skorlarında TYB olmayan şişmanlara ve kontrol grubuna göre anlamlı yükseklik bulunmuştur. Toronto aleksitimi ölçeği puanları TYB olan ve olmayan şişmanlar arasında farklılık göstermemiştir. Tartışma: TYB olan şişman hastalar TYB olmayanlardan ve kontrol grubundan daha fazla ruhsal belirtiler göstermekle birlikte aleksitimik özellikleri birbirinden farklı değildir.

Objective: To investigate the alexythimic and the psychopathological features of binge eating disorder (BED) and Non-BED (N-BED) obese patients. Methods: Thirty-six treatment-seeking obese patients and thirty-seven control subjects were interviewed with the DSM-IV research criteria for BED, Bulimic Investigatory Test, Edinburg (BITE), Toronto Alexythimia (TAS) and SCL-90-R scales. Results: Eight out of 36 obese patients met the criteria for BED. The SCL-PSDI, SCL-PST, SCL-Somatization, SCL-Obsessive-compulsive and SCL-interpersonal sensivity results were all significantly higher in BED obese subjects than N-BED obese subjects and controls. TAS scores were not different between BED and N-BED obese patients. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that BED obese patients suffer from more psychopathological problems than N-BED obese patients and controls. However, TAS scores were not different between BED and N-BED obese patients.
