: Kırıkkale'de 3 Temmuz 1997 günü meydana gelen mühimmat fabrikası pat­lamalarından 10 ay sonra, ilkokul çocuklarında travma sonrası stres bozukluğu belirtilerini araş­tıran bir çalışmanın ilk basamağı olarak, ço­cuklardan patlamayla ilgili kompozisyon yaz­maları istenmiştir. Yöntem: Patlama günü kentte yaşananların çok canlı bir tablosunu gözler onune sermesi bakımından kompozisyonların değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bulgular: Olay sırasında çocukların yaşantıları, düşünceleri ve duyguları, yarı yapılandırılmış kompozisyon yönergesine verilen yanıtlar içerisinde gruplandırılmıştır. Olaya çocukların %80'ı maruz kalmıştır. Şehrin boşaltılmasını, çevre köylere ve dağlara kaçışı ve yaşanan sıkıntıları anlatabilenlerin oranı %24'tur. Patlama anında %69 çocuk olumu, yakınlarının başına kotu bir şey geleceğini, evlerinin ya da şehrin yıkılacağını düşünmüştür. Çocukların %46'sı olaydan "çok kotu" etkilendiğini, %47'sı ruhsal etkilerin sürdüğünü, %44'ü hala aklına geldiğini, %24'ü ise rüyalarında gördüğünü belirtmiştir. Hiç etkilenmediğini ve aklına gelmediğini bildirenlerin oranı %15'tır. Çocukların %4'u olay sırasında Kırıkkale'de olmamalarına karşın etkilenme bildirmekte ve ruhsal belirtiler betimlemektedirler. Yazıda sayısal verilerin yanısıra dikkat çekici anlatım örnekleri sunulmuştur. Sonuç: Çalışmanın bulguları, travma sonrası çalışmalarda çocukların öznel yaşantılarını anlamanın önemini vurgulamaktadır.

Object: Children attending an elementary school in Kirikkale were asked to write an essay about a series of explosions that had taken place in an ammunition factory on July 3rd 1997. This was the first step of a study in which post traumatic stress symptoms of children were evaluated 10 [month]s after the event Method: An inventory of the contents of the compositions was made and narrative samples given with the aim of presenting a clear account of the events of the day Results: Children's experiences, thoughts and feelings about the day of the event were classified according to their answers to a semi-structured essay format 80% of the children had been exposed to the event 24% expressed the hardships of evacuating the city and the escape to surrounding villages and mountains 69% of children reported thoughts of death and destruction to their homes or the city at the moment of the explosion The frequency of children who stated that they had been "very badly" effected by the event, that psychological effects continued, that they still had visions of the day and still dreamed about it were 46%, 47%, 44% and 24% respectively 15% of the children stated not to have been effected 4% of the children described to have psychiatric symptoms of post traumatic stress although being out of town at the time of the event The last section of the paper consists of quotes of noteworthy expressions Conclusion: Findings emphasize the importance of understanding each child's experience while conducting a study of a traumatic event.
