Akut stres bozukluğu (ASB) ilk olarak DSM-IV'te, travmatik bir olaya maruziyetten sonraki ilk bir ay içinde ve travma sonrası stres bozukluğu (TSSB) tanısı koyma olasılığından önce, ortaya çıkan akut stres tepkilerini tanımlamak ve TSSB için yüksek risk taşıyan travma mağdurlarını akut evrede saptamak için ortaya konmuştur. Eldeki verilere göre ASB, TSSB gelişen bir çok kişiyi belirlemede yetersiz kalmaktadır. Disosiyasyon için yapılan vurgu sadece çok ağır akut stres tepkilerini yansıtacak şekilde kısıtlı kalmakta ve erken travma sonrası stres yanıtlarının farklılığını (heterojeniteyi) ayırt etmemektedir. Bu derleme akut stres yanıtı üzerine DSM-5 ve ICD-11 için yapılan öncül değerlendirmeleri diğer tanısal yaklaşımlarla birlikte özetlemekte, ASB'nun çeşitli klinik yönlerini, öngördürücü gücünü, uyum bozukluğuyla ilişkisini değerlendirmekte ve kısaca tedavi yaklaşımlarını ele almaktadır.

Acute stress disorder (ASD) was first introduced into DSM-IV to describe acute stress reactions that occur in the initial month after exposure to a traumatic event and prior to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) diagnosis, and to detect trauma survivors in acute phase who have high risk for PTSD. The evidence suggests that ASD does not sufficient to identify most people who develop PTSD. The past emphasis on dissociation might be limited to decribe severe acute stress reactions and does not differentiate the heterogeneity of early post traumatic responses. This review intends to sum up preliminary considerations for DSM-5 nad ICD-11 on acute stress response in relation to other diagnostic approaches and evaluates the various clinical features of ASD in relation to adjustment disorder and presents the evidence of predictive power of ASD and briefly discusses the treatment approaches of ASD.
