Hızlı sikluslu bipolar bozuklukların etiyolojisinde sirkadiyen ritim değişiklikleri, melatonin salgısında değişiklikler, ısı ritminde değişimler ve hipotiroidi düşünülmektedir. Bu olguların tedavisinde geleneksel yöntemler genellikle etkin olmamaktadır. Uygun tedavi yöntemleri karbamazepin, valproik asit, fototerapi, tiroid hormonları ve kalsiyum kanal blokerleridir. Bu yöntemler birbiri ile veya lityumla birlikte kullanılabilir.
