Madde kullanımı ile kişilik özellikleri ve psikiyatrik belirtiler arasında ilişkinin bulunduğu ve bu ilişkide cinsiyet farklılığının etkili olduğu öne sürülmektedir. Çalışmada, bu ilişkinin belirlenmesi amaçlandı. Araştırmanın evrenini Selçuk Üniversitesi Mesleki Eğitim Fakültesi'nde öğrenim gören kızlar oluşturdu. Sınıf bazında rastgele yöntemle örneklemi oluşturan kız öğrencilere Hacettepe Kişilik Envanteri (HKE), Belirti Tarama Listesi (BTL) ile sigara, alkol, ilaç kullanımı ve sosyodemografik özelliklerin sorgulandığı formlar uygulandı. Sigara, alkol, ilaç veya bunlardan herhangi birini kullanıyor olmakla HKE ve BTL'nin genel ve alt ölçekleri arasındaki ilişki incelendi. Kız öğrencilerde madde kullanımı ile HKE'nin sosyal ilişkiler, nevrotik eğilim, psikotik belirti puanları ve BTL'nin paranoid belirti puanı arasında ilişki bulundu. Çalışmada sigara kullanan üniversiteli kız öğrencilerin sosyal ilişkilerinin iyi, kişilerarası duyarlılıklarının bozuk olduğu, alkol ve ilaç kullanan kız öğrencilerin ise sosyal ilişkiler ve kişilerarası duyarlılık puanlarının değişmediği saptandı. Bulgulara göre kızlarda sigara kullanımının daha çok sosyal ilişkilerin iyiliği ile alkol kullanımının ise ağırlıklı olarak kişilik özellikleri ve ruhsal durum ile ilişkili olduğu söylenebilir.

There is evidence that a relationship exists between personality and psychiatric symptoms and substance abuse, and gender difference is efficacious in this relationship. In this study, we aimed to determine whether there is a relationship between substance abuse and personality trait, and psychiatric symptoms in the female university students. For this purpose, Hacettepe Personality Inventory (HPI), Symptom Checklist 90-R (SCL) and a questionnaire about the cigarette and alcohol use as well as drug abuse were applied to female students in the Job Education Faculty, University of Selcuk, Konya. An association between cigarette smoking, alcohol use and drug abuse of the subjects, and general and subscales of HPI and SCL, was investigated. There were several sorts of relationship between one of the existing aforementioned habits and HPI social connection, neurotic tendencies and psychotic symptoms and paranoid symptom points of SCL. It was found that the female university students the had precise social relations whereas they were not good at in their inter-personel sensitivity. On the other hand both social relations and inter-personel sensitivity of the students who were used to take alcohol or drug, remained unchanged. According to data, it was found that smoking was related with social connections, but alcohol usage was related with personality and psychiatric symptoms.
