Amaç: Bu çalışmada sanatla terapinin şizofreni hastalarında hastalık belirtileri, bireysel ve toplumsal beceriler üzerine etkisinin araştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Grup üyeleri dokuz hasta ve yedi hasta yakınından oluşturulmuştur. Grup üyelerinden iki hasta dışında diğer hastaların aile üyeleri de çalışmaya alınmıştır. Grup çalışması 17 oturumda sonlandırılmıştır. Grup çalışmaları öncesinde ve çalışmanın sonunda hasta grubuna Pozitif Negatif Sendrom Skalası (PANNS), Calgary Şizofrenide Depresyon Ölçeği (CŞDÖ), Bireysel ve Sosyal Performans Ölçeği (BSPÖ), hasta yakınlarına ise Zarit Bakım Veren Yük Ölçeği (ZBYÖ), Beck Depresyon Ölçeği (BDÖ), Beck Anksiyete Ölçeği (BAÖ) uygulanmıştır. Bulgular: Grup üyelerine uygulanan ölçeklerin ön ve son test olarak karşılaştırmasında hasta grubunda PANNS negatif belirtiler, PANNS genel psikopatoloji, CŞDÖ; hasta yakınlarından oluşan grupta ise BDÖ, BAÖ, ZBYÖ puanları grup oturumları sonrasında anlamlı düzeyde düşük bulunmuştur. Hasta grubunda BSPÖ puanları ise çalışma sonunda anlamlı olarak yükselmiştir. Sonuç: Bu çalışmada sanatla tedavi ve yaratıcılık yöntemlerinin grup öncesi ve sonrası ölçek değerlendirmelerindeki değişimler de göz önünde bulundurulursa, şizofreni hastalarında sosyal işlevsellik başta olmak üzere antipsikotik tedaviyle baş edilemeyen negatif belirtiler ve depresif belirtilerin düzelmesine katkıda bulunduğu gösterilmiştir.

Objective: We aimed to investigate the effects of art therapy on symptoms, personal and social skills of schizophrenic patients. Methods: Group was consisted of nine patients and seven patients’ relatives. Except for two patients, all patients’ relatives were also included. Group setting was ended after 17 sessions. Before and after the study all patients were applied Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANNS), Calgary Depression Scale for Schizophrenia (CDSS), Personal and Social Performance Scale (PSPS); whereas all patients’ relatives were applied, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI). Results: Decreases in the scores of PANNS negative and general, CDSS, and decreases in the scores of BDE, BAE, ZBI in the patient’s relatives group were observed at the end of sessions compared to the beginning of the sessions. The scores of PSPS were increased in the patient group after the sessions. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that art therapy can ameliorate negative symptoms, particularly social functioning and depressive symptoms of schizophrenic patients in which antipsychotics are not helpful.
