Motivasyonel görüşme (MG), danışan odaklı, işbirliğine dayanan ve değişimi ortaya çıkarmayı amaçlayan bir görüşme tekniğidir. Görüşmede kişilerarası ilişkinin ön plana çıktığı bir görüşme “ruhu” veya bir klinik varoluş biçimidir. MG, bireyin şimdiki veya olası sorunlarını fark etmesi ve bu konuda bir şeyler yapmasını sağlamak için geliştirilmiş özel bir yardım yoludur. Hastanın sağlık sorununu baskıcı bir yönlendirme ile düzeltmek yerine, sıcak ve hastanın değişim için isteğini güçlendirici bir yöntem kullanılmaktadır. MG, davranış sorunlarıyla ilgili tüm hastalıkların idaresinde kullanılabilir. Bağımlılık tedavisinin temel ilkelerinden biri her hastanın motivasyon durumuna göre şekillenen hastanın içinde bulunduğu evreye uygun tedavi sağlamaktır. Depreşme bir iyileşme döneminden sonra belirtilerin olduğu davranışa geri dönmektir. Depreşme önleme tedavisinin temel amaçları danışanlara kişisel yüksek riskli durumlarını tanımalarını ve bu durumlarda etkin başa çıkma stratejilerini kullanmalarını artırmak için başa çıkma beceri eğitimini vermektir. Depreşmeyi önleme teknikleri sürdürüm aşamasındaki hastalarda uygulanır.

Motivational interviewing (MI) is a collaborative, person-centered form of guiding to elicit and strengthen motivation for change. It is characterized by a particular “spirit” or clinical “way of being” which is the context or interpersonal relationship within which the techniques are employed. MI is a particular way of helping clients recognize and do something about their current or potential problems. Instead of trying to fix the patient’s health problem by forceful instructions, therapists need to use warmth and respect to persuade the patient to a desire to change. MI is broadly applicable in the management of diseases that are associated to some extent with behavior. One of the fundamental principles of addiction treatment is that treatment is provided in a stage-wise fashion tailored according to each patient’s motivation to change. Relapse is the process of returning to symptomatic behavior after a period of remission. The major goals of relapse prevention therapy are to help clients identify their personal high-risk situations and provide coping skills training to increase to use of effective coping strategies in those situations. Relapse prevention techniques are used in patients in maintenance stage.
