Seksenli yıllardan itibaren psikiyatride tedavi hedeflerinin yalnızca belirtilerdeki düzelmeyle sınırlı tutulmaması gerektiği görüşü yerleşmiş ve bireysel esenliğin her yönüyle teminine yönelik girişimler psikiyatrik tedavilerin kapsamına girmiştir. Ruhsal eğitim fayda/maliyet oranı yüksek bir tedavidir ama yararı da maliyeti de standart tedavilere kıyasla daha yüksektir. Maliyet her daim yüksektir, çünkü bu konuda ayrışmış bir ekibin vaktinin önemli bir kısmını ayırmasını gerektirir. Öte yandan fayda ancak yapılandırılmış ve kanıta dayalı biçimde uygulanırsa yükselir. Ancak bu şekilde uygulandığı takdirde ruhsal eğitim bilgilendirmeden ayrılır, etkisi yalnızca öznel iyi oluşla sınırlı kalmaz; içgörüde yükselmeye; damgalanmanın azalmasına, işlevselliğin artmasına; yineleme ve hastane yatışlarında azalmaya hizmet etmeye başlar. Bu yazıda ruhsal eğitimin yapılandırılmış ve kanıta dayalı biçimde nasıl uygulanabileceği tartışılmıştır.

Since the Eighties the scope of psychiatric treatments widened for many interventions that focus on personal wellbeing in addition to symptomatic relief which is now perceived as an insufficient target on its own. Psychoeducation is a cost-effective treatment, though both the cost and the effect are higher compared to standard therapy. Cost is high by definition: Psychoeducation requires professionals to devote considerable time and effort. However effectiveness depends on its structure and evidence based practice. Structured and evidence based implementation are the two factors that distinguish psychoeducation from information provision so that psychotherapy serves not only to subjective wellbeing but also to achieve high insight, better social functioning, reduced relapse and hospitalization rates. In this paper, we aim to discuss the structure and evidence base of psychoeducation and its practice.
