Bilişsel yetiler, duygulanım ve davranış alanlarında etkilenme gözlenmektedir. Semptom çeşitliliği nedeniyle farklı klinik alt tipler tanımlanmıştır ve alt tiplerine göre farklı tedavi seçenekleri geliştirilmiştir. Yaygın görülmesi ve oluşturulduğu iş gücü kaybı nedeniyle toplumsal, ekonomik sorunlar oluşturmaktadır.

Depression, a mental disorder that can be seen at any age, adversely affects patients and their biopsychosocial environment. Along with affective symptoms, cognitive deficits and behavioral changes are common features of this disorder. Because of the variety of symptoms, subtypes of depression have been defined and different treatment options have been developed for various subtypes. Its high prevalence and resultant work loss make depression an important cause of social and economic problems in community.
