Son yarım yüzyılda yapılan çalışmalar organizmanın strese yanıtının çok sayıda biyolojik parametre tarafından değiştirilebileceğini açık hale getirmiştir. Hipotalamo-Pitüiter-Adrenal eksen, nörotransimtterler ve gonadal hormonlar gibi biyolojik faktörlerin stres yanıtını düzenlemede etkisi olduğu gösterilmiştir. Son zamanlarda, strese yanıt ile genetik ve epigenetik faktörlerin ilişiksini inceleyen çalışma sayısında artış vardır ve epigenetik alanındaki gelişmeler, epigenetiği maladaptif stres yanıtının ve nöropsikiyatrik hastalıkların gelişimini anlamda önemli bir faktör yapacak gibi görünmektedir. Bu gözden geçirme yazısında, bu alanda yapılmış olan çalışmalar gözden geçirilmiş ve genetik epigenetik stres ilişkisinin geleceğe yönelik projeksiyonları tartışılmıştır.

Studies over the past half century made it clear that stress response of an organism may be altered by many biological parameters. It was shown that biological factors like hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis, neurotransmiters and gonadal hormones had an impact on regulating stress response. Recently, the studies investigating the association between genetic and epigenetic factors and stress response was on the rise and development in epigenetics was seen to be an important factor for understanding the development of maladaptive stress response and neuropsychiatric disorders. In this review, the previous studies associated with this topic were reviewed and future projections were discussed.
