Erektil disfonksiyon herhangi bir cinsel etkinliği başlatmak veya sürdürmek için yeterli ereksiyonu sağlamada güçlüktür. Cinsel sorunlarla başvuran erkeklerde ilk sırada yer almaktadır. Tüm erişkin erkek popülasyonun %10-20'si nde görülmektedir. Erektil disfonksiyonun nedenlerini organik ve psikojenik olarak ayrılır, psikojenik nedenler ise gelişimsel, etkileşimsel, psikiyatrik olmayan ve psikiyatrik nedenler olarak sınıflanır. Gelişimsel nedenler arasında en sık cinsel bilgi eksikliğini, etkileşimsel nedenler arasında evlilik sorunlarını, psikiyatrik nedenler arasında ise en sık performans anksiyetesini sayabiliriz. Erektil disfonksiyonun tanısını koyarken organik psikojenik ayırımını yapmak gerekir. Sorun akut başlamışsa, görülme sıklığı durumsal olarak değişiyorsa, cinsel birleşme dışında ereksiyon yeterli ise, evlilik sorunları, psikiyatrik nedenler birincil ise psikojenik erektil disfonksiyondur. Erektil disfonksiyonun tedavisi nedenin organik mi psikojenik mi olmasına bağlı olarak değişmektedir. Tedavide en sık fosofodiesteraz tip-5 inhibitörleri, cinsel terapi, dinamik yaklaşımlı cinsel terapi, bireysel terapi uygulanmaktadır.

Erectile dysfunction is the inability to get or keep an erection that is firm enough to have sex. It is at the first rank among the patients attending to the clinics for sexual problems. It is seen in 10-20% of the male population. The causes of erectile dysfunction are divided into physical and psychological. Psychological causes are also classified as developmental, interactional, nonpsychiatric, and psychiatric. Most frequent causes of erectile dysfunction are the lack of the information of sexuality among the developmental causes, marital problems among the interactional causes, performance anxiety among the psychiatric causes. Psychogenic or organic causes must be identified during the diagnostic process. Erectile dysfunction is thought to be psychogenic, if it begins acutely, its incidence is changed according to the situation, erection is enough except during intercourse, marital problems and psychiatric causes are primary. Treatment of the erectile dysfunction is changed depending on whether the causes are organic or psychologic. Phosphodiesterase type-5 inhibitors, sexual therapy, dynamic sex therapy and individual therapy are the most commonly used therapies in patients with erectile dysfunction.
